The final score was 6-3 in a game where the Yankees just couldn't come back, despite the fact that they weren't giving up. The 3rd batter into the game, David Ortiz hit a homer to make it 1-0. In the bottom of the inning, Mark Teixeira hit a home run to give the Yanks a 2-1 lead. In the top of the 2nd, Javier Vazquez started to lose it, and walked in a run to make it 3-1. A batter later, Marco Scutaro hit a double to make it 4-2. The Yankees started to come back in the 5th but were only able to score one run, Derek Jeter on a A-Rod single to make it 4-3. In the bottom of the 6th, Ryan Kalish hit a two-run double for the Red Sox to make it 6-3. This would be where the score would stand. The Yankees did try to come back highlighted by a 2-out 12-pitch walk by Derek Jeter to keep the game alive. In the 1st inning Derek Jeter hit a single which moved him into a tie with Babe Ruth on the all-time hits list with 2,873 hits. At the end of the night, the Yankees have a 5 run lead over the Red Sox with a 67-41 record and have a 0.5 lead over the Rays. Tomorrow the Yankees look to get a win against the Red Sox to the series at one. CC Sabathia will face off against John Lackey, both have 5 wins agaimst the other team in their career.

The Yankees had a special season last year and won their 27th World Series Championship. This year they find themselves in 1st place, half a game over the Red Sox 79 games into the season, almost at the halfway point. There are many things that played a role in where the Yanks are at this point in the season. In the following few posts it will highlight the important parts of the first part of the season and some predictions for the rest of the season along with current highlights. I miss blogging and it's been over a year since I did it frequently. Now that it's summer and I'm not in school, I hope that I can get back into blogging frequently. When the Yankees won the World Series last year, it was the first time in 9 years. It meant so much to me to see the Yanks win it all for the first time that I could understand what was going on. For the past 2 years I have tried to document the season in almost any way possible. Baseball became a part of my life and it was often hard to keep up with. It's been so much fun following them the past few years. I can't wait for another season to start, something I have been waiting for since that Shane Victorino groundout to Cano then Teixiera to win it all once again. The Yankees started their season up today against the Pirates that ended in the same fashion that they had done so many exciting times last year. Colin Curtis hit a three-run walkoff homer to win the game 6-3 in a game that was headed for extras, something neither team needed to deal with. This leads to the second part to this story, the one that isn't as obvious. Since going to games in New York doesn't work out to well, despite the fact that the two times I've gone have been memorable ones. Instead, I try to go to games where Trenton plays closer. To me going to a baseball game is a baseball game as long as it has to do with the Yankees. In the past year I have seen Trenton play many times which doesn't seem as exciting but it is, just in different ways. Today was an example of one of these ways, watching Colin Curtis hit a walkoff in the first game of Spring Training. Watching Minor League games gives a chance to follow different players and watch them grow until they make it to the Majors. It's a cool feeling that you knew about a player before they made it to the Majors and their backstory. Another instance was watching Cervelli catch close up just 3 days before he was called up to the Majors last year. After reading this I hope it gives people more of reason to pay attention to Minor Leaguers. Most of today's game against the Pirates was pitchers all the way until about the 6th inning. The first spark was back to back great plays in the outfield from Jamie Hoffman and Brett Gardner. Ramiro Pena was the one to spark the offensive rally with a homerun in the bottom of the 6th. Nick Johnson followed later with a one out double to score Eduardo Nunez among one other run in the inning. The Pirates scored all of their 3 runs in the 7th highlighted by a 2-run double by catcher Erik Kratz. The 9th inning started off tied 3-3 with both teams hoping that they would be able to avoid extras and not have to mess with the pitcher's schedules. After two Yanks got on with one out in the bottom of the 9th Colin Curtis came up and blasted a three-run homer to end the first game of what is to be another amazing season for the 27-Time World Series Champs.

I think it's safe to say that I am obsessed about sports. I enjoy anything and everything about baseball and my favorite team is the NY Yankees. It just so happens though that my favorite baseball player is Zack Greinke #23 and my favorite football player is Dwayne Bowe #82, who are both from KC teams. The other sport that I am into is football and my favorite team is the KC Chiefs that comes from Dwayne Bowe. At the end of the baseball season in 2008 I started blogging about the Yankees and baseball. That year I was obsessed with baseball and I did way to many things to keep track of but it was fun and i enjoyed it so I kept doing it. It was hard to get over the fact that there was no more baseball to watch. So I blogged about the current postseason without the Yankees, the Yankees season and what was going on in the offseason. This kinda helped a little bit for a while. At the start of spring training I decided I was gonna do things differently and makes things easier. At the same time I didn't want to stop blogging but when they changed this site I decided that I would stop for awhile. I didn't want to deal with using another site but in mid september of this year I thought that it would be fun to pick up blogging again as the Yankees were on the way to their 27th World Series Championship. Unfortunately I felt like no one was reading it and that it wasn't worth it so I stopped. I hope the blogging thing works out this time now that this site has the feature to have your own blog again. This is where it all started and where I spent most of my time back then. I plan on trying to make it that way again and that everything will be like it was before. So ya pretty much I just hope that I can find something that I enjoy and that works out in sports that makes life more interesting and easier to get through.
