UNC remains in search of a center.
North Carolina is set to host a transfer center next week. Rutgers transfer Clifford (Cliff) Omoruyi will be on campus for his fourth visit since entering the portal. He will have visited Alabama, Georgetown, and Kansas State by then.
What to Know
Over the last three seasons, Omoruyi has been very consistent.
2021-2022: 11.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game.
2022-2023: 13.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game.
2023-2024: 10.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game.
Omoruyi is an athletic anchor. He dunks seemingly everything underneath the basket, but also has a solid post game. To go along with those, he can step out for mid-range jumpers. This season, he made 51.2% of his field goal attempts.
Defensively, Omoruyi is a menacing presence. He has a 7’6 wing span, and ranked third in the country in blocks per game this season. Those measurables allow him to switch onto smaller players and get a hand up on jump shots.
Important Visit
Omoruyi will be the first center (reported) that has taken a visit to Chapel Hill this offseason. The Tar Heels are in need of another big. Jalen Washington remains the only player in this role. Any team will need more than one player at a given position. No matter who starts, depth is important, and having two talented centers is a luxury.
