Micah Parsons speaks out about joining B/R Gridiron as President
Darren Yamashita/USA TODAY Sports

On top of agreeing to a multi-year deal with adidas this week, Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons announced that he’s taking over as president of Bleacher Report’s Gridiron. The former first-rounder has already been working with Bleacher Report to produce his weekly show The Edge but now, his new role will have him making key content decisions, creating new shows and social media content.

On Tuesday, Parsons posted on X to explain why he believes this new gig is so important, not only for him but for other young players in the league as well.

“This opportunity is bigger than me!” Parsons tweeted. “@brgridiron is allowing me to build a platform where younger athletes can now start building towards their future, and be able to use their voice!! NFL= not for long!! Don’t wait until it’s too late!!”

The news of Parsons’ ascent to the Gridiron division’s presidency was welcomed by numerous members of the NFL community. Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill posted: “I like this Micah Parsons.”

Fellow former defensive rookie of the year Shawne Merriman also posted his approval. Like Parsons is already doing while still playing, Merriman ventured into the sports media field after his career wrapped in 2012.

“Shooting content only takes a couple hours, the days of just playing football is over. I rather have a player working on a media career and learning the ropes of business than somewhere out getting in trouble. Congrats @MicahParsons.”

Parsons joins Team adidas

On Tuesday, adidas also announced a multi-year deal with Parsons. Though Nike is the official uniform supplier for the NFL, Parsons will wear adidas apparel and specialty footwear on the field. He’ll also participate in brand marketing campaigns.

“Since day one, I’ve wanted to be a global ambassador for the game, inspiring the next generation of athletes and fans around the world,” Parsons said in adidas’ news release. “It’s very clear to me that adidas is best aligned with my ambitions and career goals. The three stripes has already done so much for me and I know that this is going to be special.”

After going in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft to the Dallas Cowboys, Parsons has made waves in the league. From winning the Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2021 to raking in millions of views with The Edge show on Bleacher Report, he has become one of the most impactful voices in the NFL over the past three seasons. It doesn’t look like he’s stopping any time soon either.

“Since his rookie year, Micah has distinguished himself a transformational player in the league with his relentless drive, unique and engaging personality and overall pursuit of greatness,” said Chris McGuire, adidas Vice President of Sports Marketing. “Micah is a perfect addition to join the three stripes. His passion for greatness – both on and off the field – positions him to be one of the biggest stars in the game, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him join the adidas family.”
