'Always a hard thing to do': Sami Zayn opens up on why he’s still proud of title reign with Kevin Owens despite fan criticism

Though he admitted that there was a lack of diversity in the opponents they had, Sami’s still proud of how the involved exponents fared. The Syrian-Canadian wrestler underscored how the live crowd used to go bonkers despite having the same faces involved in the mix. Zayn said it was extremely challenging to wrestle against the villainous stable and try not to get the fans burned out.

Because they saw so many of the matches, people kind of forgot how good those matches were. And, for a fact, they did have a ball during those main events on Raw, no matter how often Sami and Kevin took Judgment Day by the horns. They ended up losing their tag team titles to Finn Balor and Damian Priest at Payback in September.

No love was lost among them, as WWE eventually staged a WarGames match at Survivor Series with further additions of names like Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Jey Uso, Drew McIntyre, and Randy Orton. What a timeline it was!

Sami Zayn will defend his title at King and Queen of the Ring PLE

As WWE closes in on May 25, Sami Zayn has a task in hand. At King and Queen of the Ring, the 39-year-old will defend his Intercontinental Championship against Chad Gable and Bronson Reed. It would mark The Great Liberator’s second title defense since upstaging Gunther at WrestleMania XL.

For an event that’s set to emanate from Jeddah, Zayn would likely be a local favorite. That does not mean his job is any easier. Reed is already a one-man wrecking crew. But what’s even worse news for Sami is that the former Olympian, Gable, has become quite tyrannical of late.

This week on Raw, the Alpha Academy leader slapped Otis and berated Maxxine Dupri too. The former Bloodline member will have to be on the move to evade a catastrophe in Saudi Arabia.
